Rancagua Railway Station

The Rancagua railway station sits at the western end of the central grid, the southern terminus of the TerraSur commuter line from Santiago and a stop on the longer-distance services to Chillán and beyond. The station building dates from the early 20th century and is a handsome example of Chilean railway architecture — a long single-storey block with arcaded waiting rooms.

Even if you are not catching a train, walk over for a look. The platform side, especially, has changed little in decades. The surrounding streets have a few bookshops, the kind of cafés frequented by waiting passengers, and access to the commercial centre to the east.
