Coffee Farm Visit

Working fincas around Armenia offer half-day tours from picking to roasting

The defining experience of a stay in Armenia. Working coffee farms (fincas cafeteras) around the city open their doors for half-day tours that walk you through the whole production chain: picking ripe cherries in the morning, depulping, fermenting, washing, drying on raised beds, roasting, and finally tasting against your own brew at the end. Most tours run three to four hours and finish with a substantial paisa lunch.

Reliable farms within an hour of the city include Finca El Ocaso near Salento, Hacienda Combia and Finca Don Manolo near Calarcá, and Hacienda Venecia further north toward Manizales. Most cost around 40,000 to 80,000 pesos per person, are conducted in either Spanish or English, and require advance booking. Some also offer overnight stays in restored estate buildings — by far the best way to experience the coffee landscape.
