A small hill town about 45 minutes north of Armenia, near Quimbaya. Filandia has many of the same elements that draw visitors to Salento — painted balconies, narrow streets, a quiet plaza around the church — but with a fraction of the foot traffic. The handful of cafés around the central square serve good local coffee, and a short walk takes you to the wooden Mirador, a stilted lookout tower built like a piece of folk sculpture, with views across the green valleys toward the Cordillera.
It is a good half-day stop if you want the paisa village atmosphere without the buses and souvenir-stall density of Salento. The bakeries on the plaza sell decent arepas and pan de bono for the road back.
