Parque Simón Bolívar

Bogota's largest park — 113 hectares of lakes, cycling paths, and open-air concerts

Bogota's answer to Central Park covers 113 hectares in the centre-west of the city, with an artificial lake, cycling and jogging paths, playing fields, and a large open-air stage that hosts Rock al Parque and other major festivals. On Sundays it fills with families and cyclists; the Ciclovia route passes along its edges.

The park is genuinely pleasant — well maintained, with mature trees and views of the Andes to the east. A pedal-boat rental on the lake, a few food kiosks, and a constant flow of joggers and cyclists make it feel alive without being overwhelming. It connects to the Biblioteca Virgilio Barco, a handsome public library on its western edge. Getting here on public transport means taking a TransMilenio to Av. El Dorado and then the Ciclorruta west.
