Eating Out

Bogota eats well and cheaply. The set lunch (almuerzo corriente) is the backbone of daily dining -- soup, a main of meat or chicken with rice, salad, and plantain, plus juice, for a few thousand pesos. Follow the crowds to find the good ones. Street food is everywhere: empanadas, arepas stuffed with cheese, and corn on the cob. For something more refined, the restaurants in the Zona G (around Calle 69 and Carrera 6) serve excellent Colombian and international food. Vegetarian options have improved enormously -- try the places around La Candelaria.
