Bucaramanga has a lively bar scene fuelled by its large student population. The Cabecera del Llano neighbourhood, in the north of the city, is the main nightlife strip — its streets fill on Thursday and Friday evenings with people moving between bars, most of which spill onto the pavement and stay open late. The city centre is quieter at night but has some older, more characterful cantinas. Coffee here is serious: Santander is a significant coffee-growing department and local cafes take their sourcing personally.
