Getting There

By air. Bucaramanga is served by Palonegro International Airport (BGA), located about 25 kilometres from the city centre on the plateau above the canyon. Avianca and LATAM operate direct flights from Bogotá (around 45 minutes), Medellín, Cali, and Cartagena. Wingo and EasyFly cover domestic routes at lower prices. Taxis from the airport to the city centre take 30–40 minutes and cost around COP 45,000–55,000; agree on the price before departing. App-based services like InDriver operate at the airport too.

By bus. The Terminal de Transportes de Bucaramanga sits in the south of the city and is well-connected to the rest of Colombia. Frequent services run to Bogotá (around 7 hours by comfortable overnight bus), Medellín (9–10 hours), and Cúcuta (3–4 hours near the Venezuelan border). Berlinas del Fonce, Copetran, and Omega are the main operators on long-haul routes. From Bogotá, the road north climbs through the eastern Andes and is impressively scenic on a clear day, though stretches of it can be slow after heavy rain.

From San Gil. If you're arriving from the adventure sports hub of San Gil (Colombia's capital for rafting, paragliding, and caving), the journey to Bucaramanga takes about 1.5–2 hours by frequent minibus or shared taxi. The road passes the rim of the Chicamocha canyon and is one of the most dramatic stretches of highway in Colombia.
