Metrolínea. Bucaramanga has a bus rapid transit system called Metrolínea, which covers the main corridors of the city and connects to the neighbouring municipalities of Floridablanca and Girón. It uses a card-based payment system (tarjeta Metrolínea, available at stations) and is the cheapest and often fastest way to get around the urban area. Fares are flat regardless of distance.
Taxis and app services. Taxis are plentiful, metered, and generally reliable within the city. InDriver and Cabify operate in Bucaramanga and are often cheaper than flagging a cab. Uber has had an on-again-off-again presence in Colombian cities; check whether it's currently active on arrival. For trips to Girón or the outlying areas, app-based services are usually the clearest option on price.
Walking. The city centre and Cabecera del Llano are both walkable once you're in them, but Bucaramanga is hilly and spread out, and distances between neighbourhoods are significant. The historic centre, Parque Santander, and the nearby commercial streets can be covered on foot without difficulty; getting between the centre and Cabecera warrants a bus or taxi.
Getting to Girón. Metrolínea buses and shared taxis (colectivos) from various points in the city run regularly to Girón, the colonial satellite village southwest of the city. The Metrolínea journey from the Cabecera corridor takes around 40 minutes; colectivos are faster but less predictable.
Getting to Parque Nacional del Chicamocha. There is no direct public transport from the city to the canyon park. Taxis charge around COP 80,000–100,000 for the round trip with waiting time; organised tours from city hotels are also common and more cost-effective for solo travellers.
