Three monumental black-cubic library volumes designed by Giancarlo Mazzanti, perched on the ridge above Santo Domingo Savio at the top of the Metrocable. When it opened in 2007 it was the international symbol of Medellin's transformation. Structural failures forced its closure in 2014 and it has stood empty, swathed in protective fabric, ever since. A monument to ambition and to the difficulty of maintaining ambitious buildings.
Still worth riding the Metrocable up to see — the views and the surrounding barrios more than justify the trip.
