Villa de Leyva sits in a dry high valley that was a shallow sea in the Cretaceous, which is why the ground around it keeps producing marine fossils and why there is a full kronosaurus in a shed twenty minutes out of town.

Colombian Highlands works this country — walking, caving, birding, the waterfalls and the Iguaque páramo — from the Finca Renacer on Avenida Carrera 10, where they also run a hostel. They publish their own GPS coordinates, which is a courtesy given the address.
