On Saturday mornings, Villa de Leyva's market fills the streets around the Plaza Mayor with vendors from the surrounding countryside. The food section is the most interesting part: farmers from the dry Boyacá highlands sell fresh produce, local cheeses, honey, and dried herbs alongside prepared food stalls offering empanadas, arepas, and bowls of changua (milk soup with eggs, a Boyacense breakfast staple).
Eating at the market is the cheapest and most local way to have breakfast or lunch in Villa de Leyva. Arrive before 10am for the best selection — by early afternoon the vendors start packing up. The Saturday market draws big crowds on long weekends, but the quality of the produce and the atmosphere more than compensate.
