Pastelería Francesa, two blocks from the Plaza Mayor, is the best cafe in Villa de Leyva for breakfast or a mid-morning break. A French-trained baker produces proper croissants, pain au chocolat, and tarts alongside Colombian pastries — a combination that shouldn't work as well as it does, but does. The coffee is good, the setting is a pleasant colonial room with tables spilling onto the street, and the wifi functions.
It opens early and tends to fill up by mid-morning on weekends. Arrive at opening if you want a quiet table. Prices are modest by European standards and entirely reasonable by Colombian ones.
