The street running along the south edge of the historic centre, just above the Tomebamba River, has become Cuenca's main restaurant and bar strip. The concentration of options is high and the quality generally good — pizza, ceviche, sushi, burgers, Peruvian food, and Ecuadorian classics all sit within a few blocks of each other. The terrace restaurants with river views fill up in the early evenings. Craft beer bars and wine bars have opened here in recent years, drawing the city's expat community and younger Cuencanos. It is the most animated part of the city after dark.
