José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport is Guayaquil's main gateway, located about four kilometres from the city centre. It receives direct flights from North America (Miami, Houston, New York, Toronto), and connecting flights from most major Latin American cities. Domestic flights connect frequently with Quito, the capital.
Buses from Quito take around eight hours on the Pan-American Highway; the road descends dramatically from the Andes into the coastal plain. Long-distance buses arrive at the main terminal north of the centre. No passenger train service currently connects Guayaquil to other cities.
