Getting Around in Cuzco

The historic centre of Cusco is compact and best walked — many of the streets are narrow, stepped, and traffic-free. The Plaza de Armas, the Qorikancha, and the San Blas neighbourhood are all within easy walking distance of each other.

For longer trips — to the airport, to the ruins outside town, or to the Sacred Valley — take a taxi from one of the official taxi ranks. Negotiate the price before you get in; metered taxis are rare. Mototaxis (three-wheeled motorcycle taxis) handle shorter trips in the suburbs.

Colectivos (shared minibuses) run to the Sacred Valley and other nearby destinations from the terminals at Puputi and San Pedro market — cheap, frequent, and cheerful, though crowded.
