Huaraz has a solid restaurant scene oriented largely around trekkers and climbers who want proper food after a week in the mountains. The main concentration is along Avenida Luzuriaga and the streets behind the Plaza de Armas. Local specialities include caldo de cabeza (lamb's head soup), chicharrón de chancho, and the region's excellent trout from highland lakes.
