MATE — Mario Testino Museum

Fashion photography by Peru's most celebrated photographer

MATE is the personal museum of Mario Testino, the Peruvian fashion photographer best known internationally for his portraits of celebrities and the British royal family. Housed in a restored 19th-century casa-quinta in Barranco, the small but well-presented galleries include rotating exhibitions of fashion photography (Testino's and others'), a permanent space of his Peruvian "Alta Moda" portraits of Andean women in traditional dress, and the famous Diana Room of his 1997 Princess Diana shoot.

The shop and café in the courtyard are popular meeting spots — and a useful place to interrupt a walk through Barranco. Closed Mondays.

A story
One small room — 'La Sala Diana' — is dedicated entirely to the 1997 Vanity Fair photographs of Princess Diana that became some of the last published portraits before her death. Testino donated the prints and recreated the room atmosphere.
