Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM) in the port district of Callao, about 10 km north-west of the centre, is the main air gateway to Peru and far and away the busiest airport in the country. Direct flights connect it with most major cities in Latin America, several in North America and Europe, and every regional airport in Peru. A brand-new terminal opened in 2025. From the airport, the official taxi services (Taxi Green, Taxi Directo) and the Airport Express bus to Miraflores are safer than hailing a random cab — avoid the unlicensed drivers who will approach you at arrivals.
By land, long-distance buses serve Lima from every corner of Peru. The best companies (Cruz del Sur, Oltursa, Movil Tours) run comfortable double-decker overnight buses; their terminals are mostly in Javier Prado and La Victoria, and a proper taxi to or from Miraflores is essential at night. There is no passenger train to Lima. Crossing from Chile overland, most travellers come via Arica and change in Tacna.
