Canta Rana

Old-fashioned Barranco cevichería, beloved for decades

Canta Rana ("Singing Frog") is a long-established Barranco cevichería — covered courtyard, plastic chairs, photo-covered walls — beloved by Limeños for the kind of unfussy, perfectly executed ceviche that the touristy places struggle to match. Run by the Cugurra family for over thirty years. The seafood is from the morning's catch at the Villa María del Triunfo market.

Order the ceviche mixto, arroz con mariscos, and a chicha morada. Lunch only; closes at six. Cash is preferred; the place can be hot and noisy at peak. A more low-key alternative to La Mar — and arguably the better ceviche of the two.
