Lima's largest museum, housing a sweeping survey of Peruvian pre-Columbian cultures from 14,000 BC to the arrival of the Spanish in 1532. Distributed over four floors, with ceramics, textiles, mummies, dioramas and full-scale replicas of the most important archaeological sites in the country — a useful overview before heading on to Cusco or the north coast. The building, a huge concrete block, also houses the Yuyanapaq photographic exhibition on the Shining Path conflict — harrowing, and one of the most important displays in the country.
