Puente de los Suspiros

Wooden bridge over a ravine, the symbol of Barranco

The Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs) is a small wooden footbridge spanning a steep ravine called the Bajada de los Baños, which runs down through Barranco to the sea. Built in 1876, it became a romantic landmark in 1960 after Peruvian singer Chabuca Granda wrote one of her best-known waltzes about it — locals say crossing the bridge for the first time while holding your breath grants a wish.

Below the bridge, a paved walkway with steps descends past restored houses and small bars to the rocky beach at the bottom. The bridge area is the social heart of Barranco at weekends, with buskers, ice-cream sellers, and a steady traffic of couples and tourists. It is busy day and night.
