Day Trips

The standard day trips from Puno are out onto the lake — the Uros, Taquile, and Amantaní islands — and to the funerary towers of Sillustani an hour to the north. Half-day trips to the colonial village of Chucuito and the lesser-known chullpas of Cutimbo work well as alternatives if you have already done the main circuit.

Longer trips are possible to the colonial town of Lampa (around 1.5 hours), to the rural homestay villages of the Capachica peninsula (overnight), and across the border to the Bolivian side of the lake at Copacabana (3 hours). Most travellers spend two to three nights in Puno before continuing on to Bolivia or back to Cusco; longer stays reward you with quieter visits to the less-touristed sites.
