A smaller square two blocks north of the Plaza de Armas, named after the Puno-born hero Manuel Pino and centred on a statue of him in military dress. The square is shaded by tall trees — unusual at this altitude — and is overlooked by the Iglesia San Juan Bautista, a 19th-century church that holds an image of the Virgen de la Candelaria around which Puno's great February festival is built.
A pleasant spot to sit for half an hour, especially in the mornings when the light slants through the trees and locals come to read newspapers on the benches. Combine with a walk along the Jirón Lima below.
