Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul

Vast Gothic Revival cathedral whose high timber interior is one of Paramaribo's defining spaces

The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is the city's great timber interior: tall columns, pointed arches, and a high painted vault held inside a Gothic Revival shell. Construction began in the 1880s on the site of an older theatre, and the building remains an active Roman Catholic cathedral.

Opening is shaped by services and maintenance. Dress respectfully, keep voices low, and do not assume access outside posted hours.
