The easiest trip is Commewijne, reached by road or boat for Fort Nieuw Amsterdam, Peperpot Nature Park, plantation history, and a chance of seeing Guiana dolphins. Choose a trip that explains the hard history rather than treating old estates as decoration.
Jodensavanne is a longer historical outing to the UNESCO-listed synagogue ruins and cemeteries. Brownsberg Nature Park is the ambitious option: possible in a long day, better overnight, and dependent on current road and park conditions.
