Filomena in Pocitos is one of Montevideo's better restaurants for a serious meal — Uruguayan cuisine interpreted with care, a strong local wine list (Uruguayan Tannat is genuinely worth exploring), and service that takes its time. The menu changes seasonally but typically features beef cooked with more finesse than a parrilla, plus fish and river creatures from the Río de la Plata.
The dining room is comfortable without being stiff. Reservations are advisable on weekends. The wine list is a good introduction to Uruguayan wines, particularly from the Canelones and Montevideo wine regions — ask the sommelier for advice on Tannat, the signature Uruguayan grape.
