Montevideo's main area of interest is the Ciudad Vieja (Old City) on the western promontory. The Plaza de la Constitución, flanked by the Cathedral and the Cabildo, is the historical heart. The Mercado del Puerto, a Victorian iron market building filled with parrillas (grill restaurants) open at lunchtime, is nearby. The waterfront Rambla, stretching 22 km along the bay, is the city's great public space.
