Montevideo's bookable activities are mostly about wine. The city's rural fringe — Las Piedras, Colón, Punta Yeguas — holds family bodegas that have been pressing tannat for a century or more and now open their cellars for tastings, and they are half an hour from the centre rather than a day trip. Book ahead: most are working wineries with no walk-in counter.
