Caracas has no real seasons — temperatures sit between 18 and 28°C all year thanks to the 900 m altitude. The wet season runs from May to November, with most rain falling as short, heavy afternoon showers. The dry season from December to April is the most pleasant, with clear views of the Ávila and lower humidity.
Avoid late January and early February if you can — the anniversary of the 1989 Caracazo protests and the date of failed coup attempts have repeatedly been flashpoints for unrest. Christmas and Easter (Semana Santa) empty the city of caraqueños but are also when many businesses close. The annual Bajada de los Reyes Magos on 6 January and the Diablos Danzantes festival at Corpus Christi (early summer) are worth timing a visit around.
