Casa de las Ventanas de Hierro

The House of the Iron Windows is one of Coro's signature colonial mansions — an 18th-century merchant's house famous for the elaborate wrought-iron grilles that protect every window onto the street. Local tradition says the grilles were forged in Seville and shipped across as ballast. The bulged ironwork, designed to let a person lean out to talk to a visitor, is a Spanish convention that became distinctly Caribbean in execution.

The house is now a small museum of period furniture, decorative arts, and family belongings from the colonial mercantile class. It sits a short walk from the Plaza Bolívar on Calle Zamora.
