Piedra de la Virgen

Piedra de la Virgen is a huge isolated boulder beside the Troncal 10 between Las Claritas and Luepa, with a small chapel built into a niche at its base. Drivers traditionally stop to say a prayer or leave a candle before continuing into the Gran Sabana — the road north of here climbs steeply onto the plateau through a stretch known for fog, rain, and the occasional landslide.

It is a quick photo stop rather than a destination, but it marks a clear threshold: behind you the gold-mining country around El Dorado, ahead the open savanna and tepuis. The rock is also a useful reference for fuel and water — the last reliable services before the long stretch to Luepa.
