Café de la Paix

A classic colonial-era café on the main boulevard — the terrace tables under the arcade are the best seats in the city for watching Tizi Ouzou go about its day. The coffee is strong and served in the French style (espresso or café au lait), the pastries are made in-house, and the staff are unhurried. It is the kind of place where a single coffee can easily stretch into an hour.

The interior retains some of its original fittings — tiled floors, marble-topped tables, high ceilings — which give it a faded grandeur that newer cafés in the city lack. Popular with an older crowd in the mornings and with students in the late afternoons.
