Touggourt has a small airport with occasional flights from Algiers on Air Algérie — the easiest way in. By road, it is reached from Biskra (230 km north on the trans-Saharan highway) or from El Oued (160 km east). The railway line from the north terminates in Touggourt, but services are slow and best avoided.
Travel to the southern oases beyond Touggourt — Hassi Messaoud, Ouargla, and onward — requires permits and, for foreigners, often an escorted tour. Check current requirements before setting out.
