When to Go

Lunda Sul has two seasons. The dry season runs from roughly May to September — days are warm (around 25–28°C), nights are cool, and the laterite roads become passable. This is the best time to visit if you plan to explore beyond the city: the bush is navigable, rivers are low, and the red dust that defines the landscape is at its most dramatic. The wet season from October to April brings heavy afternoon rains that turn unpaved roads into mud, but the plateau turns intensely green and the waterfalls and rivers around the region swell impressively.

There is no major tourist calendar in Saurimo, but Angolan national holidays bring parades and celebrations to the city centre. Independence Day on 11 November is the biggest, with music and official ceremony in the main square.
