Gaborone's main shopping areas are the Main Mall in the centre — a pedestrianised strip with banks, shops, and diplomatic missions — and the newer Game City and Riverwalk centres, which have more of the international chains.
For crafts and souvenirs, the Botswana Craft shops in the Main Mall area carry basketry, pottery, and carved wooden items from across the country. Botswana is particularly known for its woven baskets, which use a traditional technique from the Okavango region — the geometric patterns and tight weave make them genuinely beautiful objects rather than tourist tat.
The Green Shop at the Somarelang Tikologo Eco-Park on Kaunda Road sells goods made from recycled or natural materials by local women's groups. The traditional hut setting is unusual for a city centre shop and the products — skincare, accessories, and home furnishings — are locally made and fairly priced.
