Things to Do

Gaborone's highlights are modest in number but genuine in quality. The Three Dikgosi Monument tells the story of how three chiefs went to London in 1895 and saved their country from annexation by Cecil Rhodes. Kgale Hill offers the best views in the city, along with baboons and the occasional leopard. The Gaborone Game Reserve provides a wildlife fix within the city limits, while Mokolodi Nature Reserve to the south has white rhino and giraffe on 30 square kilometres of protected bush.

The National Museum and Art Gallery on Independence Road holds the most worthwhile collection of traditional crafts and southern African art in the city. The Maitisong Festival in late March draws artists and performers from across the region — if your visit coincides with it, check what's on.
