The painted village is the entire reason to visit Tiébélé. The guided tour takes you through the royal court and into residential compounds, and what you encounter is extraordinary: a living architectural tradition unlike anything else in West Africa. Kassena women paint the walls with geometric and figurative designs that carry layered symbolic meaning, working in white, red ochre, and black. Visiting with a local guide through the Association pour le développement de Tiébélé is the only way in, and it is the right way — the tour is intimate, informative, and the fees go directly to the community.
