The largest of the Grassfields chiefdoms close to Bamenda, about 20 km west, with a smaller but interesting palace and a strong tradition of mask-making. The Bali are descended from a 19th-century migration of the Chamba people from northern Cameroon, and their traditions differ from those of the Tikar majority around them.
The palace can be visited by appointment through the tourist office. Bali also has a Presbyterian mission and theological college that have shaped anglophone Cameroon's church life since the early 20th century.
