Bamenda food is solid Grassfields fare — achu (a yellow soup of palm oil, cocoyam, and beef tripe served over pounded cocoyam), egusi soup, ndolé, jollof rice, suya, and grilled fish. The local maize-and-cassava staple, fufu, comes in several variants. Chop bars line Commercial Avenue and the side streets; the better restaurants are scattered around Up Station and the larger hotels.
