Bamenda's draws are mostly outside the city itself — chiefdom palaces, sacred lakes, hill walks, and the surrounding villages along the Ring Road. The city is the base, with a busy commercial centre, a couple of decent markets, and a long-standing missionary presence that left a network of schools and churches. Travel in the area has been disrupted since 2017 by the anglophone crisis — check the security situation locally before venturing out of town.
