Lake Awing

A small volcanic crater lake about 30 km southeast of Bamenda, set in a forested ring of hills. The water is dark, calm, and considered sacred by the Awing people; swimming is discouraged but the surrounding walks are excellent.

The road from Bamenda is mostly tarred, then a short laterite track to the rim. A motorbike taxi from Awing village does the last few kilometres. Bring food; there are no shops at the lake.
