Bamenda Main Market

A sprawling daily market in the heart of the city, around Commercial Avenue, selling everything from cassava and palm oil to electronics and second-hand clothes imported from Europe. The food sections on the western edge — yams stacked head-high, sacks of dried fish, stalls of small chillies — are the most photogenic.

Watch for pickpockets in the crowded passages; carry minimal cash. Best in the morning, when the produce is freshest and the heat manageable.
