Lac Dang is a small crater lake just north of the city, on the grounds of the University of Ngaoundéré. The water is dark and still, ringed by acacia and palm, and the rim makes for an easy half-day walk with binoculars — kingfishers, weaver birds and the occasional vervet monkey are common.
The lake is not set up for swimming or boats; it is simply a quiet place to walk and a welcome change of scene from the dust of the centre. Take a shared taxi heading toward the university; the lake is signposted from the campus gate.
