Reaching Berberati requires either patience or luck with flights. The city is approximately 600 kilometres from Bangui by road — a journey that can take anywhere from twelve hours to several days depending on the season and the security situation on the route. The road is unpaved for much of its length, passes through areas that have seen conflict in recent years, and requires a 4WD vehicle. Travel with a knowledgeable local guide or through an organization that knows current conditions.
Berberati Airport (BBT) has intermittent scheduled service from Bangui. When operating, flights take under an hour. Check current availability carefully, as services are frequently suspended. Overland from Cameroon, the border crossing at Garoua-Boulaï (about 180 kilometres northwest) is the main entry point, though border crossing conditions and security vary.
Security note: The Central African Republic has experienced significant armed conflict in recent years. Before traveling to Berberati or anywhere in the CAR, check your government's current travel advisories and make contact with organizations working in the region (UN agencies, NGOs, the Catholic mission) who can advise on current conditions.
