Central Market

Berberati's central market is the beating heart of the city and worth a visit in its own right. It is where the city's complex economy becomes visible: diamond dealers conducting quiet transactions in corners, bush meat laid out on tables alongside dried fish, Chinese-made goods stacked next to locally woven baskets, and produce from the surrounding farms and forest. The market reflects Berberati's character as a frontier trading hub — remote but commercially alive.

The best time to visit is morning, when the market is fullest and the produce freshest. Food vendors set up around the perimeter. The noise, colour, and density of activity make it one of the more compelling urban scenes in the southwestern CAR. Photographs should be taken with discretion — always ask permission, especially of market traders.
