Ras el-Tin Palace

Historic royal and presidential palace overlooking Alexandria's western harbour and naval base.

Ras el-Tin Palace stands on Alexandria's western harbour, one of Egypt's oldest royal palaces still in official use. Muhammad Ali began the palace in the 19th century, and later rulers enlarged and remodelled it; King Farouk signed his abdication here before leaving Egypt in 1952.

You cannot treat it like Montazah or the Royal Jewelry Museum. The palace is a presidential residence beside a naval area, so the visit is mostly about seeing the exterior and understanding the site from the harbour approaches. It is still worth noting for the role it played in the end of Egypt's monarchy.
