Yacoubian Building

The Yacoubian Building is a once-grand apartment block on Talaat Harb Street, best known through Alaa Al Aswany's novel of the same name. The book used the building as a stage for modern Cairo's class tensions, corruption, and private lives.

There is no formal attraction here, but readers will recognise the address immediately. For everyone else, it is a good excuse to look up while walking Downtown Cairo's early 20th-century streets.
