Eating Out

Cairo's street food scene is one of the best in Africa. Downtown Felfela, near Midan Tahrir, has been turning out excellent Egyptian food at low prices for decades — the ful medames and kofta are classics. For a more atmospheric evening, look for the open-air casinos along the Nile (not gambling establishments — in Egyptian usage "casino" means an outdoor restaurant or café), especially in summer when Cairenes pile out onto the waterfront to eat and watch the river.
