The Community Services Association has run a weekly outdoor market in its Degla compound since 1979, and it remains the closest thing Cairo has to a European farmers market. Every Thursday, stalls fill the garden with organic produce, homemade sourdough, artisanal cheeses, and handmade crafts, drawing both Maadi's expat community and local Cairenes.
The CSA itself runs language classes, support groups, and other community programming, so the market is just one part of a long-running institution — but it's the part worth a visitor's time.
