The dive-shop nickname for Sha'ab Abu Ramada is "The Aquarium", and it earns the name. A long elongated reef southeast of Giftun, with a sandy plateau on the eastern side and a series of small caves and crevices along the wall, it holds one of the densest fish populations in the central Red Sea. Snapper, sweetlips, butterflyfish and unicornfish all hang in big shoals around the plateau; lionfish lurk under every overhang. The southern point picks up current and brings in the bigger species — tuna, jacks, the occasional shark. It is a popular spot for second dives and check-out dives because the conditions are usually mild and the visibility is dependable.
